Never a weekend without something to do

My weekends consist of being a Mommy.  During the week, I am a nurse.  I take care of people and love it.  Come the weekend, I am mommy.  I do and go what and where my kids demand of me.  Jacob had a sleep over Saturday night.  This was his first "sleep over birthday party".  He has spent the night with many friends, but he claims this was his first REAL one.  After I dropped him off at the party, I got some LYDIA time.  Not nurse, not mommy, but ME time.  I went to see a movie with one of my FAVORITE people in the world, Laura.  It was so good to be able to watch a grown up movie and not cartoons.  Sunday consisted of cleaning and going to the Wake Forest basketball game.  It was Anna's first game and see was ready.  She talked all morning about "want to see boy's play" and "go boys"!  So we left the house dressed in our black and gold and headed to the game.  Anna's outfit was completed with pom poms!  She shook them all the way there.  Once inside, they were handing out more pom poms and so we ended up with out 10!  She was totally mesmerized by the sounds and then by the Deacon coming out on his Harley.  She was good until about half-time and then she was ready to go.  So we went home and enjoyed the beautiful weather.  She found some ballons and so Nana blew them up and mom made a joke of it and made Anna have boobs!  My mom wasn't too happy, but I got a good laugh out of it.  Weekend is over, time to get back to Nurse Mommy.

Weekend Full

So this weekend was a very busy one.  Friday after I took Anna to the doctor, Jacob and I cowboyd it up and headed to Greensboro for the Jason Aldean/Eric Church concert.  We had an awesome time and I loved spending that time and experience with my little man.  After getting home close to midnight, we both got in the bed quickly because we had an early morning on Saturday.  Jacob had a basketball game the next morning and they WON!  It's the tournament, so they play the semi-final game tomorrow night.  After his game, he went home and showered and almost immediately left for Greensboro, AGAIN!  Saturday night was the Winter Jam concert.  Jacob went with Kaitlyn and a group from Hope.  They had a blast together and got home about 11:45.  Sunday we did some resting and getting ready a Super Bowl party at some friends.  I made my yummy oatmeal raisin cookies and sauage cream cheese dip!  The party foot was great, but my head couldn't take the partying too long. We left at half time and headed home.  I believe my head hit the pillow at 9:15 and never moved until this morning when the Rooster crowed (my ring tone on my phone alarm :) .  I hope this week is a calm one, but with kids, nothing is ever calm!

So a quick update on the illness that has taken over Anna.   The doctor Friday said he still thought it was a virus, could possibly be the flu, but didn't want to put her on anything.  I think I am going shopping for a new pediatrician.

Sickness and health

One of the hardest things about being a mom is dealing with sick kids.  Luckily, Jacob is RARELY sick anymore. (Let me find some wood to knock on.)  But my poor Anna.  It seems like as soon as she gets finished with one thing, something else pops up.  She has had a fever since Sunday night.  I, like a good mommy, took her to the doctor Monday afternoon.  And of course, the diagnosis was "It's a virus".  I hate those words more than anything when you go to the doctor.  A virus means "you can't do a darn thing to help and they will just have to feel like crap and be whinny and wake up 5 times a night".  I am exhausted.  But Anna is Anna.  No matter how kids feel, they deal with it so much better than adults.  Below are some pictures of her last night.  Does she look like she has a fever of 101 degrees??  So it's back to the doctor this afternoon.  Maybe I will get a better answer.

Email forwards.....

I get a lot of them.  Most people do.  What may be humorous or an interesting read to one person, may be a complete waste of time to another.  I received the following a few months ago and have saved it to go back to and read on occasion when I needed a good dose of reality and a good laugh.  You may enjoy it, you may not.  I hope you do though.

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

Brothers and sisters are as close as hands and feet

My kids adore each other.  I am so lucky for them to get along so well.  Jacob acts like a little daddy to his little sister.  He will give her a bath, change her diaper, put her to bed, get her dressed.  She thinks he is a super hero, and I think so too.  He is my salvation sometimes when I have had it with her being a typical 2 year old.  He can get her to do things that she refuses to do for me.  They are both lucky.  I know that each of them will be a better grown up because of the bond they share.  I hope that they will always be close.  I know they may go through stages of annoying each other and me hearing "MOM, Jacob touched me" more than I could imagine, but I wouldn't change it for the world.  I love my Goober and June Bug more than they will ever be able to understand.
